DRAUPADI - XLVI
The city was sunny people
fresh
breeze was nimble sky cloudless
roads were clean quarters green
waiting for guests smily and keen
lines of flowers pots soft incense
hung in the air for welcome grace
chariots arrived from east and west
north south in clamorous haste
sprinkled paths fancy arches
bouquets garlands sharbat pitchers
dolled up girls spraying fragrance
banished fatigue in humble stance.
Yudhistir stood a mile away
from the palace gates with brothers
friends guards and helping hands
the reception platform large and wide
well decorated shaded draped
the guests applauded for good taste.
Yudhistir washed their feet
Draupadi did the aarati
guests were pleased beyond themselves.
Flags festrooms of varied hues
sizes colours and languages
made the onlookers scratch their heads
but wore smiles of pride
that so many tastes make
Bharat one in inclusive beauty.
So many tastes in many tongued grace
expressions of this vast various land
have gathered in Indraprastha
to witness the Yajna and bless
the one and only king Yudhistir
whose morals are high values lofty
who treats equal the big and small
whose service is duty justice sweet
who washes the feet of arriving kings
speaks kind words to one and all
he commands loyalty with humility
such a man this world needs
who will reign in full regalia
to rule Bharat for glory of man.
They shouted victory be to Yudhistir
in joyous mood entered their homes
for homes indeed were the mini palaces
where desire was sealed with plenty.
Animals too found superfluity
soldiers guards and servants
forgot fatigue and homesickness
in the hospitality of Indraprastha.
